Position Overview  

Inclusive Action is seeking a current student for the Outreach Fellow role to support the Community Innovation Team with outreach focused on micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses from underrepresented communities (e.g., street vendors, small businesses of color etc).  The outreach is intended to build a pipeline of small business owners who need microloans, grants, business coaching, and other services. The Fellow will help facilitate urgent access to capital to communities in need. IAC will be hiring two candidates for this role in 2024. 

This is a temporary, part-time role, 20 hours per week from April 2024 to December 2024. IAC may extend the contract beyond this time period as needed. The Outreach Fellow will report to the Senior Associate of Outreach & Organizing and may be asked to work with other team members at the organization as necessary. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Door-to-door canvassing to assess the needs of street vendors and small business owners and inform them about IAC’s micro-loans, grants, business coaching and IAC partners’ legal assistance and financial empowerment courses. 

  • Attendance in events for small businesses, managing a booth or table with informational materials on the services IAC and partners offer.

  • Working with Inclusive Action’s Policy & Access to Capital teams to integrate community members in advancing policies that serve our communities and leading that work with data and compassion;

  • Assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of community outreach and organizing efforts;

  • Supporting event coordination, communications, and fundraising activities as necessary.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications: 

  • Strong time management skills

  • Written and verbal fluency in the Spanish language required;

  • Interest and passion in talking to community members in underserved communities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, G-Suite;

  • Detail-oriented with care for ensuring data quality;

  • Maintain confidentiality to protect client and organization privacy when necessary;

  • Excellent collaborator and communicator;

  • Interest in economic development, social enterprise development, community-based finance and/or popular education;

  • A positive, upbeat attitude that supports Inclusive Action staff and its organizational partners and

  • Commitment to Inclusive Action’s mission.

Compensation 

The outreach fellow is a part-time position and will be expected to work 20 hours per week at a rate of $30/ hour, along with an internet and phone stipend, one week of sick time, and accrued vacation based on hours worked. There will be some flexibility in how those hours are scheduled.

Currently, the Inclusive Action team is working in person at the office 40% of the time and remotely 60% of the time until further notice and all employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19. The physical office is located in Boyle Heights and is available for necessary in-person appointments as well as an optional workspace. All applicants are expected to live in Los Angeles County.
