Position Overview
Inclusive Action is seeking a Outreach & Organizing Senior Associate to lead Inclusive Action’s outreach to create a client pipeline for micro-loans and business coaching, and base-building with community members (including workers, families, and small business owners) and community-based partners, who are important to Inclusive Action’s mission of building strong local economies and achieving economic justice.
The Outreach & Organizing Senior Associate is passionate about supporting underinvested communities in Los Angeles, infinitely curious, self-directed, and interested in producing and coordinating excellent power-building efforts in service of the communities Inclusive Action is dedicated to. They recognize the urgency of economic justice work and are interested in creating access to capital, community control over land and real estate, and community knowledge in vital services.
The Outreach & Organizing Senior Associate will report to the Director of Community Innovation and will be expected to manage team members and/or consultants. The Senior Associate will work closely with the Community Engagement Senior Associate, Policy Director, Policy Associate Director, and other IAC staff as necessary.
This team member will be responsible for:
Outreach & Organizing
Organizing IAC’s clients and community members into a political base that identifies policy and programmatic interventions to address the root causes of economic inequity in our communities
Operationalizing a base-building and leadership development program to build an IAC Community Advisory Board that inform all aspects of IAC’s work and serves to build political power for IAC clients
Engaging IAC clients and community members in advocacy efforts, in close collaboration with the IAC policy team, which may include members informing policy priorities, testifying in public hearings, and ensuring that community voices are centered in all public processes that Inclusive Action is influencing;
Collaborating with the IAC policy team to create and deliver curriculum and training for Inclusive Action’s clientele on how to engage in policy processes
Working closely with existing outreach and organizing project team members (currently Community Engagement Senior Associate and Outreach & Organizing Coordinator) to create a comprehensive community engagement strategy for the organization
Leading the development of a Community Advisory Board, made up of Inclusive Action community stakeholders that can inform the organization’s service offerings and policy platform;
Advocacy & Collaboration
Training and mobilizing clients and community members for IAC’s policy campaigns including rallies, press conference, direct actions, public testimonies, and media engagement
Assisting with building relationships, partnerships and collaborations with other leaders and organizations aligned with Inclusive Action’s mission;
Working with Inclusive Action’s Policy & Access to Capital teams to integrate community members in advancing policies that serve our communities, and leading that work with data and compassion;
Facilitating engagement across community members and with organizational partners, as needed, including compiling meeting agendas, meeting materials, and preparing and sending follow-up documents;
Representing Inclusive Action in meetings with partners, stakeholders, and the public at large; and,
Advising internal leadership and organizational partners on important community politics and information.
Project Management
Creating and implementing a comprehensive tracking system to track client and community engagement and development
Driving the work of the outreach and organizing project team via project, task, and team management
Managing multiple projects/workstreams from start to finish on time and within budget;
Working in cross-functional teams; and,
Meeting both internal and external deadlines for coalition and partner work;
Other Programmatic Support
Monitoring and evaluating community outreach and organizing efforts;
Supporting Inclusive Action’s communication efforts, by identifying community voices that can share experiences and inform systems change in Los Angeles;
Supporting event coordinating and fundraising activities as necessary; and,
Other assigned duties when necessary.
Staff Management and Leadership
Supervise team members/consultants in outreach and organizing activities; and
Provide both effective feedback and coaching to support the development of direct reports.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. community organizing or development, grassroots policy advocacy, etc);
Minimum 5 years experience in base-building, leadership development, and grassroots organizing
Experience in writing curriculum for, facilitating, and implementing a cohort based leadership development program or project
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Strong time management skills;
Detail oriented;
Ability to work in hyper-collaborative settings;
High emotional intelligence and ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully with impacted residents, team members, and organizational partners;
Ability to center the needs of impacted residents in all capacities as advocate and collaborator;
Ability to see the big picture while breaking down concepts into more tangible and actionable steps;
Spanish and English verbal and written fluency;
Positive, upbeat attitude that supports Inclusive Action staff and its organizational partners; and,
Commitment to Inclusive Action’s mission and interest in urban planning and economic development.
Compensation
Inclusive Action for the City offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The starting salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000, along with full medical (HMO or PPO), dental, and vision benefits, 401k retirement plan with a 3% company match, 18 paid holidays (which includes a week between Christmas and New Year), two weeks of sick time, and up to two weeks of paid vacation a year with an opportunity to accrue more after serving two years with the organization.

Impact of COVID-19 on Inclusive Action
Currently the Inclusive Action team is working in person at the office 40% of the time and remotely 60% of the time until further notice. The office is located in Boyle Heights and is available for in-person appointments as well as optional work space. All applicants are expected to live in Los Angeles County.
