Intern, Policy & Research Initiatives

Inclusive Action for the City is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building sustainable communities through innovative urban planning strategies, advocacy, action-­oriented research, and responsible development. Founded in 2008, the organization employs a multi‐disciplinary approach to its work, creating spaces for new ideas, compiling research, supporting local entrepreneurs and leaders, and helping other organizations implement their innovations.

Background

Inclusive Action’s approach to policy and research is rooted in the experiences of the populations we serve. We advocate for thoughtful urban policy and do original research around topics affecting our clients. In addition to research, Inclusive Action administers a suite of economic development initiatives that provide resources to businesses and entrepreneurs in low-income neighborhoods and also maintains a portfolio of clients through its mission-oriented consulting practice

Policy & Research Intern Opportunity

Join our team for an opportunity to:

  • Work closely with our Policy & Research Associate supporting our research and advocacy efforts;

  • Assist in primary and secondary research on topics such as gentrification, economic development, vacant lots, small business development, and more;

  • Draft original analysis of research conducted; and,

  • Develop informational tools to explain policies and research. 

Ideal Candidate

Is curious and eager to develop new skills and open to sharing their talents to support our research and advocacy work. They also possess the following competencies:

  • Excellent research skills and an ability to seamlessly transition between writing professional and creative content;

  • Creative, energetic, enthusiastic, and a high level of emotional intelligence;

  • Organized enough to work independently, yet responsible enough to reach out for help when needed; and

  • Self-motivated, as well as a strong team player.

Education/Experience

Applicant must at minimum be a third year in college with major coursework in urban planning, public policy, or a related field. Graduate school experience is preferred. Experience with Microsoft, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva is desirable.

Compensation
